South Indians and their pattu sarees cannot be separated and to be quite honest, we can’t blame them. Have You seen the beauty of those pattu sarees yet? They are absolute beauties! And although these sarees are stored in a cupboard, we know that they are actually in our heart! However, sometimes unfortunately, we stain them. So here is the guide on how to remove stains from silk sarees.
How To Remove Stains From Silk Sarees / Pattu Sarees
1. Oil Stains
Oil stains are the worst. They usually don’t get off our clothes. However, if you can dust some talcum powder immediately as it stains, the powder will absorb the oil completely. Later wash your silk saree with cold water to remove the stain.
2. Food Stains
The famous sambar and its aroma! Yum! But not so yum if it falls on your saree now, is it? Well, if it even happens, don’t panic, Just soak the saree or just pour some detergent over the stain, run it slightly with your finger. Rest it for some time and then wash it of with cold water.
3. Dried Stains
Sometimes it is not possible to wash off the stains and later, they get dried. In such conditions, you can try soaking up the pattu saree and then using lime juice to remove the stains. Otherwise, you can also use petrol but make sure there isn’t any fire nearby.
4. Ink Stains
Teachers are most prone to these stains. Ink stains seems tough but they can be easily removed. All you need is some warm water and petrol. Usually the warm water loosens up the ink and washing with detergent will do the job. If the stain is still stubborn, use petrol to remove it.
 5.Coffee and Tea Stains
Coffee and tea stains are quite common too. They seem stubborn but they can be taken out easily. As soon as you see the stain of coffee, try blotting it as much as you can. Then use a sponge to rub it, use vinegar or lemon juice on the stain and some detergent to wash the stain off!
6. Some Storing  and Washing Tips
It is best to soak the pattu saree in water for at least 30 minutes before washing. Lime juice and petrol are extremely effective and they can be used for most of the stubborn stains. While storing the saree, make sure you put some neem leaves in the folds. Also, avoid storing them in plastic boxes as there wouldn’t be any breathing space for the garment.
