Indian women are known for their beauty, grace and grand styles, but some of us make such mistakes, where the whole look goes down the drain in a jiffy. Ever received snide remarks talking about your height? This is because you may have not styled up the right way wearing ethnic wear. Sounds unbelievable right? However, when you read what we have to say, you would realize and make amendments too.
1. Fitting matters
It is important to know the right fit from the wrong, especially when you aren’t vertically blessed and when choosing ethnic wear. There is a difference between an incorrect size and a loose fitted kurti; thumb rule would be to ask someone to help you check with the shoulder fit.
2. Bring more attention to the torso
Down weigh it down, rather bring it up if you aren’t tall and when wearing ethnic wear. If you wear heavy statement belts and buckles at the waist or too much embroidery on the legs and the bottoms; chances are that you would look short.
3. The length of the bottoms matter
Cropped dhoti pants and leggings aren’t best to wear if you don’t have height. And they make you look bulkier than before as well. If you do have to wear pants, opt for minimal embroidery on them and those that are straight cuts to pair with heels or flats.
Shoo away the shoe woes and stop wearing booties, wedges and clogs too much, since they make you look petite and tinier than what you actually are. Strappy sandals, heels and pumps are best options to wear with Indian wear.
5. Minimal prints are your best bet
Just because your favourite celebrity wore a ghagra piece with plenty of prints in it, it doesn’t mean you can carry off the same. Too many prints on your ensemble can make you look messed up, and short too- loud prints especially. Minimal and abstract prints are best to wear to look slender and tall.
6. Kurti length is where the key lies
Kurtis in various lengths can alter your body frame. If it ends at the knees, you then would look shorter; opt for long flowy ones that create an illusion of height and length.
7. Too many layers are a complete no-no
Layers are meant to adorn, but if you are short heighted, chances are it would make you look bulky and full but not slender, tall and slim. Oversized layering isn’t cute as such; it’s an eyesore for girls with less height.
8. Type of skirt matters
Tea length skirts aren’t advisable to wear, but long maxi skirts are apt. Being vertically challenged, if you want to really wear short skirts, mini-skirts are best to wear and so are flair skirts too. Ditch the knee length ones that don’t show more legs for length.
